Our session with Dean...

There are so many SAT books out there. Why write another?
I've been teaching for a very long time, and I just don't come across students who use those SAT books properly or prepare for the SAT effectively. More importantly, I'm always shocked at how much kids struggle with retaining and using what they learn.

Why DO students struggle with the SAT so much?
This entire book is a response to that question. But the fundamental problem begins with failing to understand what a major, comprehensive exam is. We know that Midterms are much more demanding than the average exam, and Finals are a lot bigger than Midterms. Well, the SAT or ACT is like a turbo-charged Final. You can't CRAM for it, but too many kids out there think that they can.

So basically, there's way too much material.
That's correct. And we can best prepare for any comprehensive exam by learning things properly in the first place so that they stick. So what I'm presenting here goes way beyond the SAT.

And the reader can get all that from this book?
The most important product in any learning process is to become a better thinker... doesn't matter how old you are, and this never gets old. The better you think, the more efficient and permanent learning becomes. And surprisingly enough, the best way to accomplish this, is to do it without actively "studying." You have to let things develop and unfold naturally... hence the title, Organic SAT.

What do you mean by NOT "actively" studying?
For instance, when little kids pick up things from adults just by observing, imitating, asking curious questions, begging to "let ME try!"... they're not "studying," but what they learn stays with them for a very long time... quite often forever.
